As a self employed for more than 30 years, I have always found it difficult to arrange a home loan. At one point, my bank of some 15 years told me to get a ‘real job’.
I found early that to get past the red tape, it was essential to get a broker or an agent that either had some inroads to the lenders or some arrangements that were not offered to me personally. This however invariably resulted in higher rates of interest and it was quite clear that the agents had their own agenda in the form of commissions. As a result, I have never gone back to any agent for a second round of finance.
